Caring for Skultuna products
Your Skultuna products are made to last – and with a little care, they can become future heirlooms to be proud of. Most of Skultuna's products are made from untreated brass – a living material that develops over time. Brass naturally tarnishes, which protects the metal and contributes to a long lifespan.

On the inside of items such as vases and pots, this tarnish is desirable and should not be removed. On the outside, however, it’s a matter of preference – some prefer a polished, high-gloss finish, while others appreciate the darker patina that develops over time. Please note that untreated brass may develop spots from moisture or fingerprints.

If you wish to maintain the shiny surface, we recommend regular polishing. We also suggest using gloves, such as cotton ones, while polishing to avoid leaving new fingerprints and to preserve the shine for longer.
Brass
Use a gentle polish with a mild abrasive – we recommend Skultuna Polish for the best results, available at skultuna.com. Apply the polish with a dry, soft cloth. For stubborn stains, let the polish sit for a short while before you begin polishing.

Polish until the surface is shiny and the polish is completely removed. For the best results, use small amounts of polish at a time and repeat the process if necessary – this will give a smoother and more effective polish than using a large amount at once.

Please note that we do not recommend water-based polishes for polished brass, as they can leave stains if the surface is not dried thoroughly.
Gold plated brass
Gently wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use polish, as it may wear down or remove the gilding.
Silver-Plated Brass
Silver reacts when exposed to air, oxidizes, and darkens over time. Silver-plated items can be gently polished with a soft cloth. Candle wax is best removed by rinsing the item in warm water. For a deeper and gentler cleaning, Skultuna recommends using the polish available at skultuna.com.
Brushed Brass with Matte Finish
Polish as you would regular brass, but make sure to wipe thoroughly in the direction of the brushing to avoid leaving polish residue on the surface. We recommend Skultuna’s Brass Polish, available at skultuna.com.
Blackened Brass
Wipe with a damp cloth for regular cleaning. If wax or candle residue has stuck to the surface, you can gently warm the item with warm water and then remove the wax or residue.
Etched brass
Polish as usual with a dry, soft polishing cloth. If the polish gets stuck in the small holes, take the cloth and gently press from both sides to remove it. We recommend Skultuna Polish, available at skultuna.com.
Candlesticks & Candleholders
Never leave candles burning unattended. There should be at least 7 cm between two lit candles. Do not let a candle burn down into a candlestick; extinguish it before it reaches the holder. Metal conducts heat, so never place a candlestick on a sensitive surface. Never move a burning candle, always extinguish the candle first.
Vases & Pots
Keep the exterior dry to reduce the need for polishing. When adding water, immediately wipe away any spills or condensation to prevent staining on the outside.

Do not place the pot on delicate surfaces, as moisture underneath (including from condensation) may cause marks. If you're unsure, use a saucer underneath. To maintain a shiny interior, use a sealed inner pot with a tray below.
Jewellery
Enamelled and gold-plated jewellery: We recommend cleaning with water and mild soap, then drying thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Silver-plated items: Use a specific silver cleaning product, such as a silver polishing cloth. We recommend avoiding contact with perfume, baths, pool or seawater.

Leather components: Leather is a natural material, so avoid using household cleaning agents. Try to keep the leather dry at all times, and if it becomes damp, let it dry naturally. The leather may change colour over time as it absorbs oils from the skin, which is completely normal.
Production, Materials & Service
To maintain the wide range of its assortment, Skultuna has chosen to work with specialists in various production techniques. Skultuna therefore collaborates with a select few world-leading subcontractors for the manufacturing of products and components. At the Foundry in Skultuna, the final processing takes place, including a wide range of steps such as polishing, grinding, engraving, and assembly.

Skultuna's brass is, since ancient times, a unique alloy consisting of approximately 63% copper and 37% zinc, which gives it a perfectly golden color. Silver plating of brass products is done manually in Sweden, where a thick layer of silver is applied over the brass.

Skultuna performs continuous and thorough quality checks of the materials used in its products and actively works to comply with the REACH regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. The primary aim of this legislation is to protect human health and the environment from risks posed by chemicals.

We hope you will enjoy your Skultuna product and that it brings you joy for many years to come!
