The much-loved character The Little Prince was written and illustrated by the French aristocrat, writer, and fighter pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It was first published posthumously in France in 1943 after its liberation from World War II, as Saint-Exupéry's works had been banned by the Vichy regime.
